Looking for info on crossing Lake Michigan
One of the trips we are planning this year is riding up to the HD musium and taking a ferry accross the lake so we can get to Lansing.
We are trying to get pictures of the bike in front of all the state capitols we can. We want to take a couple of days vacation on a long weekend (Memorial day pobably).
Then we can stop off at Indianapolis on our way back to Arkansas.
Any information relevent to the trip would be appreciated.

If you take the Lake Express fom Milw. to Muskegon it will take about 3.5 hrs. If you take th S.S. Badger from Manitowoc to Ludington it will take about 5 hrs. There is a time change crossing the lake from central to eastern.
I took the S.S. Badger from Ludington to Manitowoc 2 yrs. ago & in that direction it took onlr 3 hrs. You need to check on line for departure times.

I've done the SS Badger from west to east and it was a long slow ride. They generally load ( you ride on and tie down your bike yourself ) after most of the cars have got on the ferry. There are few amenities ( there was a snack shop at one time, not sure if it's still operational ) and an enclosed area to sit during inclement weather. If the sun's shining you can relax on the deck using one of the lounge chairs provided. You might want to get a set of Soft Straps ( http://www.amazon.com/Soft-Loop-Tie-.../dp/B002MYLB1Y ) to ensure that the tie downs don't make a mess out of your scooter. The Lake Express is significantly faster and significantly more expensive. Good Luck on your trip Brother ... and if you need a Life Jacket they supply those free of charge :>)

I took the Lake Express from Muskegon to Milwaukee in July 2010 and hence took I96 just north of Lansing. Was a dream run across the lake and I'd highly recommend that route. We pre-booked our tickets online 6 months ahead, fronted on the day with 2 Ultra's and 2 Street Glides, rode straight on, they provided tie-downs, took a nap up on deck, rode off no problems.
