hadn't checked into this thread in a while, been busy working and enjoying summer lol. the weather has been great up here so far this year, nothing like all the rain you guys have been getting.
if you take highway 88, there is a 20km stretch that is still unpaved, but will be getting pavement this summer.
hopefully i'm around if you ever do this loop, i could join you for a small part of it

drop a note to zal or myself if and when you plan to come thru, I've planted the seed in his head that we should do an NWT trip in the coming season. I'm sure even if we don't do the north we could meet you for a tea and ride along for a chunk of it.
88 is nice new pavement from Red Earth Creek all the way north to hwy 58 east of High Level.

yeah, I don't think I would try that early. May long is notoriously unpredictable up here, especially farther north. we've had snow on that weekend many times, and I wouldn't be surprised it it was still quite chilly up north in the morning/evening. my thinking would be early or mid June to ensure the weather was decent.
I have done a lot of fishing up north, many times we've flown up and found out the ice has still not melted off the lakes. we go to Fort Providence usually in the first or second week in June just to ensure we don't run into problems with the ice. but on the other hand, the falls just inside the NWT border are spectacular during spring runoff. you can feel the ground shaking a kilometer away before you get to the actual falls.
