Riding is better in November than it is from now through September. It will be chilly in the early AM and at night, and just right during the day. I would suggest you ride the Coronado Trail (US-191), although November might be too late due to weather.

I went out a few years ago for a few days before a sales meeting, and rented a bike for 3 days. The highlight of my trip (besides the south rim of the canyon) was route 89A between Flagstaff and Sedona. Fantastic! I'd highly recommend going south on it, from Flagstaff down to Sedona. It's a steep canyon with twisties. Very cool, but I'm glad I was headed south. I mapped out 89A before I got there, but didn't realize that it was such a scenic ride until I got to it. Worth going on. From Phoenix, take 17 up to Flagstaff & down 89A. Another cool trip was 93 up to Kingman, and then a ride out 66 west to the old copper mining town of Oatman.

Default Thanks!

Thank you for the great riding info. I know weather can change, but if we dress properly, do you think these rides are doable in early November? I am concerned about the evelvations. Do you know of a "Plan B" less elevated couple day ride for a back up? Maybe traveling more desert (and yes not as much "fun") The HD Dealer suggested Tombstone?

Thanks again for all the info!

The weather shouldn't be a problem on the route in early November. But if you wanted to go south to the Tombstone area try this one; Take US 60 east out of Phx to SR 79 go south through Florence continue south on SR 79 to Tucson, take Ina Road over to I-10 and take I-10 east to SR 83 and go south on SR 83 to SR 82 (intersection at Sonoita) go east on SR 83 to SR 80 and go south on SR 80 to Tombstone. South of Tombstone on SR 80 is Bisbee, great little town, very cool hotel to stay at the Old Copper Queen, siad to be haunted, great place stayed there several times. Also in Bisbee is a great place to eat called the Breakfast Club, owner loves to ride and there are usually lots of bikes there. From Bisbee take SR 80 down to Douglas check out the old Gadson Hotel, great stain glass windows and the old bar is beautiful. You can take SR 191 back north to I-10 and either head west back to Phx or if you want a little longer ride go east to SR 191 north to Safford, at Safford go east on US 70 to Globe and back onto US 60 and into the Phx area again. Some of this area is high dessert 5000+ ft so a low early winter storm could produce some snow, but it wouldn't stay long. Enjoy our state. Attached pic is in front of the hotel in Bisbee.
