Default Trust the forecast?

I was planning on to ride from NY to the Deals Gap area, but the forecast is 30-40% chance of rain. It's been like that here in NY for a while, is that the average summer day forecast? Go during the summer or better to wait for the fall? My calendar is wide open.

Well? We have a Bermuda High off the coast of FL and the jet stream is pushed back over Ark. That funnels a ton of moisture up from the Gulf. We are right now getting drenched and we already have 12"-13" over our normal rainfall. I would do Fall as it will be drier and the leaves should be spectacular this year. Just get your accommodations set up now.

So you are saying there is a 60-70% chance of sun, right?

I usually look at the hour-by-hour forecast for the areas I will pass through. Sometimes the only significant chance of rain is during a certain short window of time, that may not even be near the time I'll be in the area.

Stop being a wuss, get some decent rain gear & head out...little moisture isn't going to melt your bike...

Summertime in the mountains. 100% chance that if you ride long enough you will get wet. Suit up and roll.

Usually, I am the smart alec and I already have rain gear. In my area it's spotty this time of year so the 30-40% is somewhere in the 50 mile area radius and pops up somewhere but it's anyone's guess, and it usually finds me. I have my 13 year old son riding with me if I go over the summer, and having him on the pillion concerns me in the rain since his weight and motions changes the way the bike handles and that is a big deal in the rain. Don't ask- I have a brand new rain suit for him and we have ff helmets.
