One more time with FEELING;
I am riding to Sturgis this year. Planning to camp along the way, take the roads less travelled to get there and back. Anyone is welcome to ride with me. I could use some suggestions on roads to ride there and back, places to camp along the way etc...
I want to take my time on the trip, not in a big hurry going either direction. Less $$ spent the better. I am staying at a camp ground called: http://www.gentleeaglemanor.com/
Thank you

One suggestion I have is to take Hwy 212 in Montana as opposed to I-90. Little Bighorn Battlefield at the jct of I-90 and 212. We continued on 212 and stayed at a dive looking motel just as you come into Ashland, MT. Turned out to be the most comfortable bed I've sleeped on. Left there in the morning and rode to Broadus, MT and had a great breakfast at Cashway Cafe. Just before leaving MT is the town of Alzada - The gas a B&J convience store was horrible for my buddies '06 Dyna. Just my 2c

I posted on the regional forum and didn't get a single comment. I'm thinking about going from Puget Sound but avoiding I90.

I'm looking at WA to Boise, Boise to Idaho Falls, check out Yellowstone for a day or two, over to Sheridan, WY and then over to Sturgis or camp or something. Spend a couple days at Sturgis... See the Black Hills, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, etc.

Looks like a great run. Check it out on Google Earth.

I should know by June 1st if I can make it happen.

My riding buddy and I went last year out of Seattle. No I-90. Going, went over Stevens pass basically on hwy 2 through Sandpointe, Bonners Ferry, Kalispell then up over the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park (highly recommended) and over to Cutbank. The rest of the trip to Rapid City included a stop at the Little Bighorn Monument (we joined a group tour thing and learned a lot about the battle and the area). The area looks basically the same as it would have back in the 1870's when it happened. Then we continued to Rapid City. We planned to get to do Sturgis right after it ended so the big crowds were gone...worked out well. Spent a day doing a loop around the Black Hills - Mt. Rushmore is ok, but the Crazy Horse Monument is very cool (if you go make sure you stay for the 20 minute movie that explains everything). On the way back we hit Devil's Tower, then south to the Beartooth Highway, through Yellowstone, down and around the Grand Tetons and made our way back to Missoula. We were planning to ride Lolo but a fire started the day we got there and they shut it down so we took 90 until we got to just before Coeur d'Alene (hwy 3 south) which was a very nice trip. The road directly on the east side of the Lake, hwy 97 is amazing and there's a nice little hotel in Harrison (Lakeside Motel) but we did that road the year before. Anyway, it was a memorable trip and we were fortunate to have 2 weeks to do it. I'm not going this year but will probably go next year and will alternate between camping and motels. If anyone is interested and uses Tyre, I'd be happy to post or send my GPS maps. Keep the oily side down!

Great post!

I'll look at that route but many of the Montana roads I know.

Still, I'm checking my maps...
