We're taking it from Orlando to VA in July. Definitely isn't cheap, but I figured it's a new adventure, so what the hell. Gonna ride through mountains on our 1 week way back home.

Wearing a CamelBak on long hot trips helps alot too. Fill it with ice and water and it not only keeps you cool, but your water is right there so you can drink and not stop. Drink enough water so you're pissing clear.

this applies on motorcycle and on other forms of transportation if riding or flying into another country. When you leave home, make sure you have your passport with you..... I mean make sure it is "your" passport lol. I say that from experience lol. When I got to the airport yesterday I had my daughter's passport not mine lol. Funny now, not funny yesterday , I did make it back with my own passport

I use the hour method. First off, I get absolutely horrid gas mileage on the slab. About 35 mpg. Sometimes less. Plus I'm not usually in a big hurry. So I take the opportunity to stretch a little, have a half a cig, a drink a pee and go on my way.

I ride tank to tank. 150-160 miles at 2 hours a shot. Gas and go again.
You can cover a lot miles doing that.

Looking at your sig, I see you have some IBs under your belt. I want to do an IB but want to start with 500 miles, but set some type of time goal to prep for a 1k mile iB. With your gas and go's do you stop for water or food or on the go?

I carry water and granola bars with me. I also carry a few snacks.
A bottle of water fits between my forks and windshield and the granola bars are in my tank bag. I wear a modular helmet and eat and drink on the road.

My goal is 10 minutes from hitting the exit ramp to getting back on the highway. You can't ride fast enough to make up time lost while you are stopped.

I found that a large black pillow case was nice at the end of a long day of riding. Pulling into the hotel, throw the things that you will need in that pillow case and head up to your room as opposed to clumsily grabbing 13 different loose things out the bike and having to pack-mule all that crap into the hotel. I grabbed my "Willie G Santa Clause" black pillow case, threw my stuff in it, and made the walk in and out of the hotel much easier.

Drink water before you feel thirsty. If you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated. Eat light. Trail mix works really well for me.

If it's your first time taking a big trip, pack everything you think you'll need and go camp/stay in a motel somewhere close to home for a couple days. Make a note every time you stop and think, "Gee, I really wish I had X right now." Then add X to the packing list.
