Keep the phone numbers of all of the places you might want to stay in and call them every afternoon before 6 pm, thats when cancellations happen you might get lucky and score a room inside the park.

Visited the park last summer first week of June. Not sure how much busier it gets later in year..... We (5) of us were able to roll into Cody around sunset pull over got some phone numbers from gps and booked two rooms w/o a problem. Next morning rode Beartooth, through Yellowstone made plenty of stops, and again rolled into West Yellowstone around sunset and did the same thing for accommodations. FYI would have loved to spend more time in Cody seems like a really cool town. Good luck

If you stay in Cody, I recommend the Irma Hotel. Food and drink on location. We have stayed in West Yellowstone, Mt. on our trips. Nice town with lots of food choices and rooms.

That time of the year make reservations or don't count on a room. Silver Gate, Cooke City or Gardiner would be my choices. If you don't make reservations, stay in Cody, Jackson, Livingston or maybe Bozeman. Cody and Jackson are not guaranteed. Lived in Yellowstone for 10 years and would not even approach the park without reservations at that time of the year.

Reservations aside, everyone told us the park was a mess with traffic in August and actually recommended against it. Well we spent 4 days in the park on the bike, and yes the traffic is a little much, mostly at the parking lots, but god damn being on the bike made it all go away!! We were able to slowly and respectfully go around all the gawkers, motor homes and others unable to operate their vehicle of choice. And parking at the hot spots was a dream on the bike. I could see why in a car in August it could stop being fun, but two wheels made the difference. It is good to be a biker!

I rented a cabin at Yellowstone Lake for one night in August 2 years ago. I reserved it at least 6 months in advance and there was nothing else available in the park. The cabin was nice,no television or Wi-Fi available and very expensive. Traffic was heavy, even on a bike there were places you could not squeeze through but parking was easier.

We camped in an rv in west yellowstone a couple years ago. It is right on the south side of town. Very clean. You can walk into town and eat drink and be merry.

Last year we stayed about 70 miles NW of West Yellowstone entrance. El Western Cabins in Ennis, MT. Reasonably priced and worked great for us and our route. Safe travels!
