Default phoenix, Las Vegas and Eastern Kalifornia bike trip review, April 2014

I just finished a road trip thru the Arizona area. Here are the routes I took. Beautiful scenery!

From Phoeniz, AZ take I-17 North to 260 West into Jerome, AZ. I-17, Its an Interstate with major elevation change and really nice scenery.

In Jerome pickup 89A South and enjoy some of the twisty-est roads you will find with major elevation changes. The spectacular views and windy roads put a big smile on my face for sure. When you see it on the map it will make you salivate!

89A dumps off onto Rt. 93 which took me back to my destination in Wickenburg.

Next day i head off for Sedona, Az. I go back up I-17 to the exit for Sedona, Rt. 179. Great scenery but it becomes a Natioanl Park with lots of tourists and the commercialism that comes with it. Folow Rt. 179 North thru Sedona and it becomes Rt. 89A North. a really nice road with sweeping tuns that are a blast and becomes wooded. It ends at I-17 again but you only go a few miles into Flagstaff before picking up I-40 West.

I-40 runs across the top of Arizona to Las Vegas. Its higher elevation, around 6000 feet and wooded. We followed it to Rt. 64 North to the Grand Canyon. The canyon is awesome to see. Remember that the temperature drops very quickly so leave the area before sundown. We made it back to I-40 Williams , AZ just after nightfall and it was pretty chilly.

We stayed the night at Knights Inn in Williams , AZ. We got a clean basic room with 2 double beds for $60 including free continental breakfast and coffee. its right along side the highway and I would recommend it for sure. You can walk to a nice steak house behind it, which we did and I recommend it too. Their is also fast food in front if you prefer. You can walk into town if you want to.

Started out the morning on I-40 West to Exit 123 for Historic Rt. 66. Fabulous ride thru the midwest, mostly flat with few houses. Just a really cool ride across prairie. Be sure to stop about 15 miles from Kingman, AZ at Mike's Outpost Saloon. Its a really cool little bar, wet the whistle and meets some cool people! Here is a link to a video of the place.

We continued into Kingman, Az, picked up Rt. 93 North to The Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and Las Vegas for the night. The dam is no big deal but neat to say you saw it. Same goes for Lake Mead. You are there already so may as well see it all!

After leaving Vegas we took Rt. 95 South to I-40 for a little bit they run together. Make sure you get gas when 95 South breaks from I-40! Down 95 south Kalifornia, to Rt. 62/72 Parker, AZ. The next gas stop i $5.00 a gallon at a place in Kalifornia but only 20 miles from Parker, Az where its only $3.50.

The ride thru Rt. 95/62/72 is all desert and rock mountain. I found it boring with little vegetation and not much to see. I would not go back thru their again personally. The roads were also not as nicely taken care of as Nevada and Arizona.

We finshed up on Rt. 60 back to Wickenburg AZ.

Hope this helps someone out. Ride well my friends!

I take it you're not a fan of California.

The ONLY reason I went thru Kalifornia was to take that picture. Cant wait for the state to fall into the Pacific.

Jerome is a really cool little town with a GREAT mountain road. The Sedona landscape is incredible, but largely ruined
by the plastic tourism of the town itself.

Jerome was only 20 miles from Sedona. Riding through Sedona sucks, between the numerous traffic circles and the pedestrian tourists.

But the views are spectacular, especially if you get away from the traffic circles...
