Default OKC to Lubbock

if you were going from OKC to Lubbock, would you go south thru Wichita Falls and then west or go west out of Lawton on H70 and then down to Lubbock?

I'm planning my road trip from Iowa to Tombstone AZ and would appreciate input

thanks

Man I see your dilemma. Any way you go isn't going to be the most scenic. Well unless you like seeing a lot of nothing except maybe some windmills. Are you going and coming through that area? if so, go one direction going and the other coming. If only doing it once, I would have to try the Lawton, Altus, Childress, Paducah, Floydada way would be the way I went. But that may be more because I"ve been the other way before (albeit it was in a cage). Enjoy your trip and let us know which you decide.

thanks for the response.
It will be one way down and another way back.
On the way back would like to go north thru Utah Colorado, etc, but that will be dependent on the weather. Last week my son in Denver got some serious snow so we'll have to play it by ear.

Unless there is a reason to go to OKC and on to Lubbock, you might look at alternative routes. Consider US 54 to Vaughn, NM. From Vaughn take US 60 to Springerville, AZ. Then US 191 down to the Tombstone area.

The fastest way would be I-44 south to Wichita Falls and then west on Hwy 82. If you're doing this in the summer it will be very hot and non-scenic. Maybe consider west from Iowa over to Colorado and then south toward Tombstone. At least through most of Colorado the temp will be a little more tolerable.

Hmm, that US 54 approach sounds more interesting, think I'll give it a try.

I'm leaving next week weather permitting. Just cant take it anymore. Cold winter (about 40 days where the temps were at or below zero) and now 50 degree rainy weather. Need to get on my scooter and go

Once your out west, don't run low on fuel. Fill up in Dalhart and Vaughn for sure.
