This years Northern CA (with some NV and OR) ride
On 7/6/14 ten of us from NY/NJ flew into SF for a 6 day, 1400+ mile ride. We rented new bikes from Oakland HD and rode from there to Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Klamath Falls, Eureka, Fort Bragg and back to Oakland.
I was on a 2014 SGS and have to say it is one awesome bike. The GPS/audio were great and the bike was a blast to ride! We tore up the twisty roads pretty good and the bike handled great. Max speed was around 110 MPH, but was able to push it to 120 on a good downhill.
Among the many amazing roads, some of my favorites were, California State Route 4 through Ebbetts Pass in the Stanislaus Forest, Avenue of the Giants, PCH, Route 128...
Just a great trip and got to see so many cool sites and towns, and meet some great people. Found some decent places to eat and drink.
Weather was fine with temps ranging from the low 50's to the low 100's. All dry, except for the last 20 miles into Klamath Falls when we got hammered with rain and small hail. Rode through some 4-6" sections of road flooded with rain and mud, but the bikes did fine.
Also, just before that we were stopped for road construction when an elderly man in a truck plowed into a van behind us when he claimed to hit the gas instead of the brake. The people in the truck and van were pretty shook up but remarkably, no serious injuries. We were lucky as the van saved our asses.
All in all couldn't have asked for a better trip!
