Default Riding around Appleton, WI?

I am going to be up in Appleton in a couple of weeks on business and might have some time to rent a scoot and go for a ride. I see a bunch of different roads but have no clue.

Open to suggestions

Parameters?
  • Renting scoot from HD of Appleton
  • Day ride, out and back, no time for overnight.
  • Miles I want to ride? 300-400 sounds reasonable (out and back), or less I guess if I stop at a few places.

A ride through the Kettle Moraine south of Appleton is always a nice ride. You can follow the signs or just take your own direction. A stop for fuel and a cold drink of your choice in Dundee is nice. Most of the roads are in great shape, some twisties, sweepers, hills and great scenery. I am bias to the area as it is right in my back yard. I can spend hours burning up some miles in the area and meeting other riders.

You can find nice roads anywhere in WI. Door County nice, but would avoid during weekends. What day of week will you be there?

Spending the weekend in DOOR county, actually Sturgeon Bay, what is a great road to get there from Milwaukee, after we do the HD museum? Got some friends coming from missouri.
How is the road, route 42, that follows the lake ( coast) ... .?????

I used to live near Green Bay and go to Door County quite a bit. At that time 57 was the kind of two lane I hate. Congested with too much opposing traffic to pass, and no passing lanes. That may have changed, that was 15 years ago.

The best rides are on roads nobody knows about, like this weekend from Florence to Shawano. Hwys, 101, Cty T, 55 were twisty, deserted, through woods, and by rivers.

42 was a good road in my day.

lambeau field in green bay, doc's HD in bonduel. you will spend several hours there, easily.
. hwy 55 through menominee county is a beautiful ride. door county northeast of the city green bay is nice, go up on the lake michigan side and come back on the bay of green bay side.

Highway 57 is 4-lane from Green Bay to Sturgeon Bay. The Door County peninsula would be a good day ride. Once past Sturgeon Bay stay on 57 to ride the Lake Michigan coast and return on 42 to ride the Green Bay coast. Best to avoid weekends because of increased traffic. If Appleton HD doesn't have the rental you want, you can also check with Vandervest HD in Green Bay.

To the OP...I would suggest heading north. Maybe head up through Shiocton then 187 up to Shawano. Catch 55 north maybe up to 64 or 52, then head east, then swing back down towards Appleton, maybe on 47.

Riding north of Appleton is pretty nice, especially north of 29.

I will repeat what at least one other person said; if you get near Shawno, just out of Green Bay be sure to stop at Doc's HD, give your self an hour to walk around. Other areas which may fit in the miles you are talking would be Minocqua, Boulder Jct., Manatowish Waters(Dillingers Hang out was up there at Little Bohemea). Eagle River, Three Lakes which has a nice Winery with free samples. Almost forgot to mention that there is a newer spot up there called Bonnie & Clydes Gangster Park along Hwy 51, just south of Minocqua which caters to motorcycles. I'm not sure if it is open all the time but it was sure a neat stop during the fall color ride weekend to Tomahawk, in Sept.
