Default Houston to Tail of the Dragon

We have a group going to Tail of the Dragon from Houston. Looking for some good roads, places to eat, and things to see along the way. We plan to stay a little to the south going and a little to the north coming back.

I10E to I12E, I59N, I24E, I75N to exit 72 (hwy 72) east to Vonore, Tn Hwy 411 N to stoplight, T/R on Hwy 360 follow to Tellico Village, Tn. You are at the North end of the Cherohola Pkwy. Take it south to Robbinsville, NC and Bryson City, NC take Hwy 129 North or Hwy 28, will take you to Deals Gap NC and begins hwy 129(The Dragon), go North to the Foothills Pkwy, this dead ends at hwy 321, T/R to Townsend Tn, T/L on hwy 321 follow to Pigeon Forge, Tn. From there you will not find a bad road in a 100 mile radius. Great Smoky Mountain Park, Cherokee, NC. That'l get you there and started. Also go to this website and click on the link for their advice on good roads www.touringdepot.com

If you can swing it into your schedule, the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg,TN is great place to see. the tour is free and very cool. we did it on our way to The tail in May.
Its not that far from Chattanooga.

You're going to be in for a huge letdown when you get there. Sure, it's famous but if you're honest with yourself, you'll determine that it's just another road.

But, ride the Blue Ridge Pkwy and be sure to go to Maggie Valley to see Wheels Through Time.

Be safe and have fun!

I found the blue ridge pkwy the best ride of the whole area. You have to do the tail at least once. But I thought the moonshiner and blue ridge was better.
