Day 10, 8/16/14, Amarillo to Home, 352 Miles

We left Amarillo a little before 6:00AM. Here's our route. Pretty interesting, very scenic, huh?

Made a brief rest stop just south of Hedley at one of the "Beware of Rattlesnakes" rest stops. We talked to one of the grounds keepers who said they had found 167 rattlesnakes in an old abandoned house nearby. He said the biggest one was 13.5 feet long. Dont' know, but that's what he said.

We did stop to see the new building of the HD dealership in Wichita Falls. You should have seen the old one. It was similar to a barn.

They have a very nice facility now.

Got home around 1:00PM. It was getting hot. Good to be home, but I'm ready to go again. Can't wait until the next one.

That's all folks!

We're going to northern Arkansas sometime in the spring. Maybe we could meet somewhere for a beer if you're down that way.

Cool. Keep me posted.

I'm shooting for BBB in Fayetteville in Sept. Dad's health is iffy so it may be sooner and under less pleasant circumstances.

On a previous trip in 2007, Mark and I spent the night in Leadville. Here's a pic I took when I got up on the morning of 8/29. It's blurry because it was a long way down the street and my camera was on maximum zoom. Anyway it was 41 degrees.

I love that stretch of road between Wichita Falls and Amarillo!
Good 4 lane roadway.

Those 2 rest stops are pretty much some of the better ones in Texas. I have never really seen them dirty...nice to have them!

Im in north Houston right now and sure wish I was back in my second home in NW Colorado where it was 68/43 today!

Its hot here...come on cool fronts!

Its a good time to be riding right now...good post! thanks

That's funny.....interesting how folks can have different views. I lived in Texas for many years and always remember that stretch as being made up of dog miles, where every mile seems like 7 Especially on return trips from Sturgis in August.
