2012 CVO Roadglide, complained of excessive valve train noise at 16k, 1 month before 2 year warranty expiration. Its normal says the dealer, ride it don't worry.

Went home, bought ESP, 45 days later, 14 days after warranty expires, catastrophic engine failure due to a lifter letting go. ESP paid, $5800, I paid $4200 for new 120R with new clutch, jag oil cooler, 1.5 quart extra pan, new SE compensator plus new Tb, injectors, air cleaner, adjustable pushrod, etc.

Don't ignore the noise!!!!

SE catalogs indicate lifters are a WEAR item and should be replaced approx. Every 7500 mile, read the fine print!!!!

Mine now get replaced every 10k.

No further problems, bike now over 30k.

Just because CVOs cost more does not mean routine maintenance can be ignored

My opinion

I wasn't a fan of the ticking myself. At the 1000 mile service I switched all the oils over to Redline in my 14 CVO Roadking. It really quieted down. But I wouldn't ignore any of the service intervals and thanks to bigskyroadglide for teaching me about the lifters! I'll make sure I change those out.
