I have a 2012 Street Glide and the air shocks suck. How do the CVO Street Glide shocks work? Is the ride good or too soft or too firm, and how does the hand adjustment work?

 

The ride is good. The left side shock has a preload adjustment depending on how much weight you carry or how firm you like the ride. Some have described them as the best rear shock Harley has ever put out.

 

Did not know that the left was adjustable. I will have to check it out. So far on my 2012 I have only had the rt bag off. Inspected it and gave up. Mine sure needs adjusted for two up. Thanks

anybody know if the 12 CVO shocks will fit an 04, seems like they could help the ride quality, but i do not know

 

Why wouldn't they fit? It is a shock. As long as the eyelet is the same your good.

Well, I would describe the hand adjustable CVO shock as the worst shock I have ever owned! I am 158lbs so perhaps it's just too stiff for me. The shock was so stiff that there was virtually no sag at all when I sat on the bike so I was riding at the top of the shock all the time. Rebound on the shock was absolutely terrible too. Others that tried my bike found the shock extremely unforgiving and harsh. It preformed only ok and on bumpy roads it was all over the place. I think if your 250lbs or more, it may be the shock for you but I'll never know since I replaced it for a set of BiTubo's and the difference is absolutely incredible. The CVO shock is an overpriced calamity of a design and the function is limited to one-side damping and that's it. Do "not" waste your money on this horrible shock when for almost the same price you can have a custom fitted fully adjustable shock for almost the same price.

 

I have the 2014 SGS with the CVO shocks and I would say that the hand adjustment doesn't work well unless of course your a pretty heavy person. Adjusted all the way to the softest position my shocks were so stiff that there was "no" sag at all. The ride was horrible for my 158lbs and many heavier riders that tried my bike hated the shock as well. It was ok on the straight flat road but on bumpy turns it was a dangerous nightmare for my light-weight body. The rear end danced out of control and the rebound was almost nonexistent. I replaced them with custom-fitted BiTubo's for not much more than the cost of these and the difference is absolutely incredible. Save your money!! Do not buy this horrible CVO shock for your SG.

 

Progressive 940s are a better alternative to the CVO shocks.

 

almost 2 years later and I will re-post my opinion. I am changing out the stock CVO shocks for Bitubo's...tried a bike and the difference was incredible.
