Andrews A vs AB ?
#11
Neither the A or AB..............a #2 grind will run circles around either.
If you guys are horsing around with Lieneweber cams,(we used to get $2000-2500.00 at a time from him, and set up correctly they DO make power!!)you might want to throw a degree wheel on the crank and double-check the cam. Trust me.

that is not a cam for a novis to install the tech sheet said minor valve work and that would be a full shop with ) experence ( not a at home guy with a set of craftsman tools < not trying to down play what your abilitys are - you need a rymac machine - a valve grinder - a valve seat grinding equiptment all of it including stone shapers and pilots - you need a way to replace guides - cut the tops of the new guides for travel AND the seal - you need mid lift top retainers - extra room lower retainers and a stronger set of valve springs -- it is not for a novis even if you can do the take apart this stuff is a real shop

Thanks for the info John, May just stick with a J cam or something with less lift.

Dave
you need to remove the valve spring - then re install the top retainer and the keepers - its the travel that is the issue and the way to check it is with a vernier the L3S has .485 lift plus you want a seal sooo around .600 between the bottom if the top retainer and the top of the valve guide measured along the side of the valve stem is what you would need

82?
late 1980 / early 1981 and they were different both years with different guides they were the same length one had seals and one did not
funny thing was you had to take the heads off to see what ones it had as they haphazard the engine installs so what was done to one got lost in the mix of all of them for assembly
it was stupid really - but once the guides are replaced it is all good

You would need to become creative - using a solid lifter front exhaust easiest to check and the rear exhaust at full lift
dial indicator connected to the solid lifter and measure the amount of travel the valve guide will allow - today we set them all at .500 travel even a bit more
caution - doing it this way with out experience you can crush the valve seal going to far - but the long guide only allowed .425 lift so if its going more then that on the gage and has not stopped you - you have the later guides
