I have an 82 FXR shovel that has never had engine work done, with about 45K, and doesn't need it. But, the black fins on the lower section of the engine is somewhat discolored and slightly discolored (rust colored). I'd like to clean it up and paint it, without R&R the engine, any ideas of how I can do that and with the proper paint?

Mine looks like you describe. I don't think it hurts anything.....

 

I just mask off what I don't want painted and hit with some high heat engine paint.
