Default Shovelhead speedo question from Finland.

Hello. I have small problem with my shovelhead transmission speedo drive.
Is the speedometer running when you move the bike (towing) with gear in neutral position? Thank you?

I think that the speedometer will run the whole time, but if I were towing it, I'd disconnect the chain anyway.

Thank you . I tried to install speedometer to my bike, could it be so that even there is place for the drive, there is no gear inside tranny. This bike has normally speedo gear from front wheel. I have sparts catalog ,but only FL models. FL models part no;35635-69.

FX transmissions for certain years had a block off plate over the transmission drive hole and no gear on the counter shaft, they were front wheel driven. FLH transmissions were transmission driven speedometers and had the gear on the counter shaft.

the inside gear and the driven gear for the cable can be installed in the bike -

the trans counter shaft comes out with out taking the main shaft out first soo - you can install them in the bike with the primnary off and kicker cover, oil tank and trans top

the spur gear is just pressed on the counter gear cluster then reinstall then you slide in the the driven gear for the cable - converting a FX to FL fuel tanks and dash this is one of the things some bikes you will need to do as some forks have no speedo plug in

BUT they do make a rear wheel speedo drive kit for the rotor side if you have disc brakes some need a slot cut in the rotor to make that happen - it comes with the drive and the cable dont remember what ratio 1:1 or 2:1 - or 2260 :1 - maybe
