Default tire pressure

Just installed two new Dunlop 404 d tires on the 74 flh. Manual says tire pressure in psi, is in the low low 20's, however every time I have a tire installed at a bike shop, they put in 32 psi. Will that low of pressure cause issues with my new rubber?

I think you have to follow what the tire says on the sidewall

I bought these tires at a local HD dealer. Told them I wanted a good set of rubber. They sell a lot of them, but upon further reading im finding that the 404D is not recommended for Harleys. Granted my 74 is not as heavy as the new big cruisers but this has me a little stymied. Should I be wary? I have run dunlops on my 65 sportster for 7 years and I have little or no wear. the flh is a couple hundred pounds heavier I think. I cant find anywhere their recommended pressure either online but I will look at the sidewalls, although they usually say maximum tire pressure, which im not going to run.

When the manuals were written they were using old style Goodyear tires that ran 24 lbs of air. The info from the tire manufacturer on the side walls should be your guide.

I would think that the pressure written on the tire is no more than the max pressure the tire should be inflated at. Different bikes can have the same tires but not all at the same pressure.

Old rule of thumb....inflate to 10% less than max pressure written on the side wall. Ride and check for wear. Do not go by the manual.

Correct answer...the pressure on the sidewall will likely give the best wear...but may give a harsh ride...you can back off some to soften up the ride...but you don't want 20 anything in a modern tire.
