Default CV Carb conversion - Air Cleaner Assembly help

Hi,

I am working on the carb upgrade for my '80 FLT and I was looking for some assistance with selecting an air filter assembly that will work on my bike.

I am leaning towards the S&S kit because it has all the parts, provided it will work, here is a link: http://www.sscycle.com/product/Evolu...it-p20171.html

I am also open to simply using EVO take off parts, but I am not certain of exactly what parts I need, and I dont want to buy stuff off ebay that I dont need.

If anyone out there has done this same conversion and can provide some advise, that would be great.

Thanks!

Any model Sportster that originally came with a CV carb will work(90-up or so), and look good on the bike since a lot of shovels used the oval air cleaner...but not exactly a bolt on. You will have some large holes where it bolted to the EVO's heads that you will have to plug...and you will have to come up with some sort of support that bolts to the shovels head...so all the weight is not on the intake manifold. Some of the screaming eagle sportsters air filters had a flat metal backing plate...sticks out a little further but MUCH easier to modify...here,s a link to one...the cover for it is easy to find.

I used the head breather holes to mount my Air cleaner to the rockers. But, I have the newer rockers with the threaded hole in the bottom middle of each...that with a couple pieces of "L" bracket, and I'm secure, and the holes are plugged [fender washers]

+1 on the Sportster air cleaner. Looks like the early 70's style. Here is one on my 72. You need to fabricate a support bracket and plug some holes.

for support bracket you can use a big twin evo carb support bracket:

and this:

Or just the latest with an EVO big twin air filter

Thanks for the input.

I ordered the flat backed Sportster plate and a matching top, and a K&N filter.

I also went with the DS carb support bracket which should work well to support it.
