Does the outer half of a banana caliper have to float or move on the mount and guide pins? Mine is rather tight and will not move. I put in a oversized after market pin and line bored the two halves but it is tight when mounting it to the fork. Is it supposed to be stationary on the fork or does it move in and out with the other half?

if it locked in place only one pad will wear down the one in front of the piston

It is supposed to squeeze the rotor in between the halves. If there is no movement it is only working at a MUCH reduced efficiency.

It "floats" on the pin ... Usually they are so damn sloppy they rattle and clunk like crazy ... If it is bound up you might do some "polishing" and that could/would help ... FWIW the Banana caliper leaves a lot to be desired ...
