Default Installing Progressive Fork Springs

The front end on my 73 FLH is clunking a little and feels like it is bottoming out at times. I changed the fork oil and put 20 wt in it. That helped, but didn't completely get rid of it. I had the tubes apart also to change the seals and noticed it isn't a 73 front end from the diagram in the manual. Looks like a late 77 and up. I should have changed the springs at that point, but I was trying to go cheap. Here is the question. Can I change the springs just by taking the top of the triple tree off? Or do I have to pull the tubes completely out again? Thanks.

Just the top bracket and the fork tube plug. If the plugs have the baffles on them it is a 49 to early 77 style.

No baffles. That's why I'm thinking they are late 77 up from the diagrams. Thanks.
