I changed from points to Ultima Electronic ignition four years ago. I static set the timing and never needed to change it.
I am very pleased with it.

Hello all,

Recently picked up a '71 FX, and was considering making the change to electronic ignition.

What's the installation time/difficulty on one of these type systems? Also, can anyone recommend a good coil to use with the Ultima system?

Thanks!

A Dyna S dual fire has been in my Shovel since about 1998. Only change I made once was a Rivera advance unit and it ran like **** so I put a new stocker in and no problems since.

i only sell the ultima electronic in my shop no other - its reliable in 12 or 15 years i had one act up the led bulb burned out and they sent me a new one for free -- the coils are 50/50 you get a good one they are like any other - i also dont buy the kits that for a shop are almost the same cost as with out, but we know the coil is an issue - use the dual fire set up, any oem 3 ohm coil and your good to go or single fire we buy the dyna - in a shovel no difference can be seen going to more money single fire

the dyna s is a great no frills magnet trigger and yes the bearing advancer is a MUST have ( rivera = USA ) but only saving a small amount if you already have a 3 ohm coil -- the dyna s HAS to have a 5 ohm coil the same one you want for points or it burns right out with a electronic 3 ohm coil

you need to check what you have with an OHM meter
