Default Rear Chain Tension - 82 fxr

My manual says chain should be 1/2" up and down deflection. Does this mean a total of 1 inch from down to up??

Also, how often should the chain be relubed (no oiler)

Thanks
Russ

you missed a step - you first need to rotate the rear wheel and find the spot on the chain that its the tightest - the tightest spot is the spot you adjust the chain not just anyplace

yes to a snug 1/2 inch making it one inch on the tight spot

I never lube my chain. I use lithium grease. Pull the chain off, clean it in kerosene, wipe it off til it's good and dry then clean the sprockets and reassemble everything. After you have checked the tension and everything is buttoned up, paint the grease on with a cheap acid brush. Top of the rollers, bottoms, and both plates inside and out. Try not to get any of this stuff on you, it isn't easy to get it off.

Redo it when the chain starts looking dirty again or every time you change the rear tire.
