Hard pops out carb midrange
I'm fighting for riding days here in Minnesota as it begins to cool off - my 77 shovel has been running very well - but now I'm getting hard pops out the carb in the midrange power band - real hard pops - bike misses than picks back up - only pops once in a while but it does it enough to be a real problem - last time it did this it was my points gap too tight from the rubbing block on the points arm wearing - I've set the float height multiple times - screwed with everything - I have 5 other bikes with very well tuned Bendix carbs - and I tuned them - this one is starting to worry me - advance weights look good - timing is near perfect - gap is .018 - plugs are new - not sure where to go now on this - maybe swap a carb out? set the float height higher? thoughts????

yeah - this is what worries me - it seems to cut-out - but it is one big pop than right back with power - I might switch out the coil as well - this is the **** I hate - I can weld and remachine a 50 year old set of cases but I can't find a pop in the carb to save my ***

switched out the Autolites for Splitfire plugs this morning - only popped three times during decelleration into turns - pretty odd - the Autolites were new - although I did flood the bike prior to this starting - plugs look okay though - runnin .034 gaps with points and 5ohm coil with copper wire plug wires

so got home from work tonight at 10:30 - bike ran great - looked at the spark plugs I took out and one fo the gaps was like ,010 - I now recalled I dropped that plug when I was "reading it" the other night - I did not think it hit the electrode but it must have - so the hard pops were caused by a tight gap - I believe this caused misfires - when the unburnt mix got pushed back through the overlap cycle it was ignited by the dual fire and POP goes the weasel
