Default Wheelbase of 1971 Electra Glide?

I'm going to look at a 1971 Electra Glide this week that is a distance away, and if the deal works, trailer it home.

My trailer bed is 72" long- -will it fit? I suppose I could gain a few inches going diagonal on the bed if it was longer than 72".

I can find specs on "length" of newer bikes, but not much on the older Electra Glides. The wheelbase is actually whats important....as long as the tires are on the bed, I can strap it down and get it home, even if some tire/fender/etc is longer than my bed and extends over.

Thanks!

I put 2x8 board under....so both wheels on it, thus supporting the rear wheel so the tailgate doesn't take all the weight. Although it'll take it..just makes me feel more comfy.

Get a long enough ramp...or load backed up against a good incline...cuz that breakover angle once the front wheel goes over the top of the ramp..and onto the bed, bike will hit frame 'tween the wheels.

Didn't buy it. It was at this big auction, and there were probably 40 Harley's there from a restored 1955 to 2014's. everything from 883 sporty's to trikes, plus a lot of hot rods, old cars, etc.

If you had $25,000 to spend, there were some deals to be had. For poor old me, nothing at that sale was affordable. It was crazy, people were bidding stuff up to market and sometimes above!, and then the seller wouldn't let it go.

Some sellers thought their stuff was pure gold I guess- -There was a 2006 ex police Electra with 51,000 miles that was a little rough around the edges that they didn't let go at $8000. I couldn't believe they bid that much, AND they didn't take it.

There was a couple that bought a couple of the bikes- -the last one was a 2004 883 Sportster with 8000 miles - they paid $5500...couldn't believe that one.

The first bike was a nice mid 90's 883 sportster with low miles for $2250, probably about the only sane deal that was actually done.

I was there for a beat up 1970 Electra Glide with sidecar...hoping it would go cheap. Unbeknown to me, the guy had just rebuilt the engine, and it was road worthy...the seller owned it 40 years and ran it around a lot. Bids went up to $7500 and he didn't let it go. Don't blame him, because he had that much in the engine, but I was surprised the bids went up that high..it was really rough looking.

I hate these trumped up auctions with un-realistic reserves - no bargains, and nothing sells. There were 250 items on the sale bill, and I doubt they sold 5% of the items.
