Default Trouble in Paradise

1975 FLH Shovel
4 speed transmission

All is well... until tonight. While I was letting it warm up, it died. 100% will not ignite. Two things are present along with this... The start button dead, which is not the issue because I jumped the relay with no problem, still no ignition. And... the neutral switch light went out. Can the neutral switch bring one of these bikes to its knees?? I'm at a loss...

I push the start button, nothing... I jump the relay everything spins, no ignition. Neutral light has gone out... Run rocker switch?

wigle the on/off switch on the handlebar.
I had 1 go bad and the bike wouldn't start.
Neutral is just a light
Does the oil light come up?
do you have spark? wire to the coil?

the early bike is wired so if the neutral light is not on the relay does not engage the starter - ground the neutral wire / or 2 wires together -- and see it is cranks

could be a loose ground on the battery, or the positive cable.

Thanks for the answers. I think I'm going to hardwire the run switch... Maybe even pull it out altogether. I'm sure there are reasons not to do this... And... Go

Default Here's the wiring diagram for your bike, hope it helps

When you stated you jumped the starter relay, did you touch # 1&2 terminals at the relay together?

Thanks for posting the diagram. I just bypassed the run switch. One less step to get it started

Check your ignition switch. Sometimes when I switch mine on, I have to rotate it counterclockwise just a little bit to get that neutral switch to come on and make her fire.

Check the main wire to your key switch. I had the circle terminal break once. No juice to anything.

I have had the very same thing happen to me. Behind the head light there is a connector that connects the white wire from the frame harness to the white wire on that goes to the ignition starter on the right handle bar. When you lose connection you lose power to ignition and starter.
Mine has failed me twice the first time it was burnt from over heating the second it lost conductivity momentarily.
I soldered and heat shrunk it this last time.
