Default Dyna 2000P ignition settings

Hello again, I am having trouble kick starting the 84 FXSB with this Dyna 2000p ignition, it seems to be hit and miss but mostly miss. I have searched the internet looking for info on how to set the switches on the back but no real joy...can anyone point me in the right direction. By the way it starts first time with the electric start ( cold or hot ) and runs real nice. Cheers

Most electronic ignitions have "dead revs" with no spark to make it easy on the starter...for an electronic ignition to work with a kick start , you have to be able to set the "dead revs" to zero...I can not find that setting for a 2000P...it is supposed to be for a 91 up, so it may not have it.

Thanks Tom, yeah I read that somewhere...oh well button it is....I've managed to kick it a few times but not enough to be confident to try it outside the bar lol

Pretty simple to make it into a "one kick" bike...after the initial cold start. If you want the kicker to work when the battery is too dead for the starter, points actually work best. Your next best choice would be a basic electronic ignition that uses a mechanical advance...like the Dyna S (that would be my choice) Now if you go that route, maintenance on the mechanical advance becomes important...because if the weights get stuck in the advanced position, your "show" outside the bar will become a youtube video, as you get thrown over the handlebars.
