Default 1972 fx Shovel advise

Longtime member. First post in a awhile.

I am looking at this bike

The asking price is $6000.00 Canadian.
First question. What do you think of that price?
Can you guys tell me what is not original on this bike. I know paint, fender, primary and I am thinking front end. Is there any thing else that jumps out at you?

For starters, tanks, fenders, handlebars, risers, triple trees, gauge cover, speedometer, primary drive assembly and covers, probably carburetor and pipes and mufflers....
If I were looking for something mostly original, I'd pass on this one.
If you're just looking for a shovel rider and you like the way this one has been customized, and if it's in great running and operating condition - well, then it's your call.
Look around though. There's a lot of nice shovelheads out there.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the reply.

Basically the frame and motor are original.

I am not looking for an original bike I am just trying to figure out what this model of bike would have looked like originally. I like the styling minus the paint.

I have googled 1972 FX 1200 but it is very difficult to find even a picture of an original bike. I also can not seem to figure out what model variations of FX bikes were available in 1972.

What are the important things to look for/ask when looking at these vintage bikes?

I am just looking for a short range cruiser. Daily driver kind of bike. I want something a little less common than my buddy's have is all.

in 1973 a lot of changes came along that made the engines much more reliable as the 1970 to 1972 were all by them selves - too much to type all the changes in the engine its self -

not much has not been aftermarketed on it

There was onlt two fx-1200 superglides.
The boattail one [like the '71] and the same bike with conventional sheet metal.
Maybe the First FX Rear Fender..Struts too. Now that I think about it.
Geeze...gotta be first FX seat too...

My friend has one like this, except those stock parts shown removed, are still on it...

Sure wish I was the Owner of this one

They are both cool bikes.

So the one that I am interested in started life as either one of those two models?
Now I can compare things like breaks, forks, controls etc.
Thanks so much

Far as I know...the square swing arm was 1973
nseverett; those are what came from the MoCo in 1972. as SuperGlides.

Note; If you really want stock...include checking for the two piece handlebars, and Internal throttle as well.
