Default 1976 Flh shovelhead Rebuilding

Hello, my name is Karl. I am trying to restore my dads Flh shovelhead 1976. I really need help. If anyone know where I can find installation help with the wiring harness and instrument dash. I can't find anything.

Default 76 shovel rebulid

What helped me when I did the wiring for my 67 shovel was the owners manual. I went to my local copy store and blew up the schematic for the wiring and studied it until I fully understood it. I bought the wiring harness and slowly proceeded to connect each wire to its right place. Take your time and get it right. Most Harley catalogs carry the harness. Have fun!

You will still need the handlebar harness as well.

Like has been posted...buy a shop manual or get someone you know to get you a copy of the diagram of the wiring. Then enlarge it. Then take the time to color code the lines according to the wiring sheet. Ya it is some extra time but it sure helps when you are routing and connecting wires.

Only other option is to build your own wire looms or get a kit from aftermarket sources. Sometimes doing you own or using an afetrmarket setup is the way to go if the bike is not going to be stock or is a custom build.

Either way you are going to need some type of schematic to help you wire it. Several folks have posted up wiring diagrams for their particular custom needs.

Nice job so far but let me pass on a little advice on a future headache, the braided top end oil feed & crossover line. They look good for a while but everyone ever I've seen starts weeping oil out around the crimps within a few months, just a heads up .

These guys have you covered for the wiring issues so I'll not add to it. Love the safety wire on the kicker pedal , never thought of doing something like for those slippery buggers.

Custom Chrome makes a hard line that splits into two where it comes out of the bottom end. One line to the back head, one to the front, and plug the hole in the front of the rear rocker box (you won't need it now). Both rocker boxes fill at the same time when you start up, better oiling. Had mine on for several years now, and no leaks.

and glue the blown up wiring diagram to a piece of cardboard or something. I did that and also put a lot of notes on the drawing as well.

Or you can get an aftermarket wiring harness...every wire is marked where it goes...and you gain little features like self canceling turn signals...had one of these on my bike for years with no problems.
