1974 FXE Shovelhead Starting issues
Hey All,
New here to the HD forum as I've finally ran into a problem I can't seem to fix.
Yesterday I was out riding and about 25 min into the ride my bike died at a stop light. Tried starting it back up with the electric start and nothing. Pushed it over to the side of the street and still wasn't engaging. Swapped out batteries from my buddies bike and still nothing. Got it back to my garage last night (via a truck) have it on the charger as I was under the impression that if the battery isn't fully charged the starter won't do anything at all.
Here's a video I took about an hour ago while the bike was being charged, still making the single clicking sound when trying to electric start it. After doing load of research the sound we hear sounds like its the starter solenoid engaging, but the starter motor isn't engaging.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, make sure all your cable connections are clean. This means all cables from the battery, ground, relay, starter motor, and solenoid.
Make sure the starter motor is good.
If your still having this problem, do a solenoid check. If the coil is good and can hold the starter drive in, disassemble it and flip the big contact washer around. This is what sends current to the starter motor.
Sounds like your relay is working but not your solenoid.

Yup I found a trick online to use a feeler gauge to jump the solenoid. If that works it seems the solenoid is your issue correct?

The starter relay feeds the solenoid.
The starter button feeds the Relay...
and Yes...ground is the very first suspect...but...Where...mostly Not at the solenoid.
Starter Relays are most often overlooked..but, Very much a Part of the System. Good ground, and good Voltage...then, Good signal [starter button].
