Default FLH Battery Tray and Battery

I've been thinking about going with a FLH battery setup for better cranking power.

Then again, there are these smaller batteries that are supposed to be pretty powerful in a small size. Lithium batteries and what have you.

Thought my 88" stroker could stand the extra starting power.

You won't be happy...The Original FLH Battery is Large, and that's all!!!
The YB16B size [Superglide] can be had in AGM with more than 300 CCA, and The size is More than adequate with Li-on types.
To change. The pipes must clear the larger Box. the Starter mount for the Tray is Generally for the Prestolite Starter, or needs to be fabricated for the Hitachi. [or vice-versa I need to check that] and some rear fenders don't clear the Battery box anyway.
I have gone the other way!!!

I have the Prestolite starter. I had it rebuilt and wanted to stay with it for now.

I noticed the FLH box used a different bracket. Guess it has to be to take the bigger battery. Didn't think about fender clearance.

The guy that rebuilt my starter also sells batteries. He is very reasonable price wise plus he has a great selection of AGM or Lit-Ion units.

I'm making my own 4ga cables. Hope this helps also.

I'd go with an ETX-16. 320 cca. Should be plenty. The posts should be right for your bike. This is what I Run in my 82 FLH.

My bike is not all H-D but it's set up like a FXE from the 1970's.

My old 88 never had a starting issue that wasn't related to a weak battery and that was due to the original low amp charging system. You upgrade the battery I'll strongly suggest ditching the stock shovel stator & regulator and upgrading to the evo 32amp system. Much better.....

A friend of mine says that it has already been upgraded. How would I know ? Like everything else on this bike, it's not the stock charging system.

I don't know if this helps. Seems like you would have to see the stator to tell if it's a 32 amp.

Unplug the regulator and show us the pins , that'll tell.
