Default 81 FLT Transmission to Secondary chain bath leak

I have an 81 FLT Tour Glide.

The transmission oil is leaking into the rear chain oil bath. What is the most probable cause and what is the recommended repair?

How do I know it is leaking into the oil bath?
1. I fill the transmission to the proper level.
2. I have never manually added oil to the chain bath yet between rides (sitting idle for a week) it fills up.
2. I drained the bath to the bottom of the inspection plug near the bottom and toward the rear of the bath, which should be the normal level, then replaced the plug and let the bike sit for a little more than a week (no time to ride).
3. I opened the plug and clean oil flowed out.
4. Checked the transmission level and it was down.

Thanks in advance!

Never had that
You sure your Primary is low???
I only put enough lube in the primary to be picked up by the ring gear[outer clutch basket] when level.
Clutch going round and round is bound to throw any excess right into the rear chain housing!

I think he said transmission oil, not primary

See, that's the thing, I'm not talking about the Primary Drive where one might think the oil from the transmission might leak into.

Talking about the Transmission, filling through the plug/dipstick on the right side of the bike, and that oil ending up in The Secondary Drive Chain Bath.

Oh!!!!
The seal on the output shaft of your tranny is bad!

Probably.... But, Check to ensure the vent is clear before you tear it apart

Edit; The vent hose comes off a fitting on the trans cover...look between the clutch arm and the starter motor...

seen the sprocket nut loose and then that happens like you have

take it all apart and re seal all of it - you can lose the bath thing and install an o ring chain

I've got the basic screwdrivers, and wrenches. What "special" tools, if any, will I need to accomplish this?

You must remove outer primary, then clutch and primary drive, then inner Primary.
You will need all the tools required to do an inner primary R&R on a 4-speed.
Primary are Compensator removal, Clutch Hub Removal, and finally drive sprocket removal..

Gonna follow your thread and wait for updates. I have a slow leak from my tranny into my primary as well. Let me know the difficulty level.
