82 FXE Want to have better acceleration
Right now have 51 tooth to Rear and a 5 speed tranny............

Do I need to drop to a 49 tooth??

 

Opposite...going bigger rear will give better acceleration...lower cruising speed. what 5 speed have ya got? BTW; going one smaller on the front is better....not easier...but better.

 

Rev-Tech 5 speed with Kicker.......been looking at the 6 speed..........

 

That 5 has a lower first gear already, it should pull pretty good but you shift sooner. 5th is the same as the 4 sp it's 1-1 so no gain on the upper end. What tranny sprocket you running ? Stock for the FX models was 23 tooth and most guys went up to 24 to get more highway.
