79 fxe primary belt install
I just finished putting my clutch basket together and dialing the clutch then when i went to install front pully to engine there wasnt enough free play to get belt and pully on all the way....i heard u can loosen 4 bolts on trans to slide forward or back for belt adjustment. I broke the bolts loose but cant seem to get trans to adjust. Seems like the inner primary would stop the trans from going forward or back.
Any suggestions or videos i can watch? Please help its killing me. Later today ill tear clutch apart (again) and try to install both pullys and belt as ine unit. But how do i adjust the tension if trans dont move?

If you have a stock tranny with the e-start it will not adjust. Adjustable tranny went away after 1964.
best way to get your belt on is to do both sprockets at the same time. Just make sure you have the front motor sprocket lined up and make sure you don't push the key on the tranny shaft out of its space. Takes a bit of patience but it goes on smoothly.

Otherwise, if it's too tight, you can probably get a belt with one more tooth and a belt tensioner

Since I won't run the Belt with the Tensioner...IDK...Never needed to.. Been my experience that folks with an adjustment always run too tight anyway... If I had one [non-adjustable] that was too tight, I would obtain an oversize belt....Too loose...I would Happily Run it!!!
