oil pressure is split between the lower unit and the top end - direct is to the hyd lifters secondary is to the lower unit < roller bearings just need flow to keep them alive - hyd lifters need pressure - the relief is only to keep the entire engines internal level at a minimum because its a dry sump system, and the overage is dumped into the cam cover, and the bottom of the cam cover by passes using pressure - its all splash and has the direct inlet back into the oil pump in the bottom
