Default Merry Christmas...how do I get those shock apart

Sure would like to powder coat this and make it all pretty. How do I get it apart? No retainers on top. Yep, I have a shock tool. It's off a 72 rat bike so it could have come from a different year. Any suggestions?

Do you have enough clearance to get a 2-jaw puller on there? It might give you enough pull to pop it with a hammer and un-sick it. Heat will work too, but the rubber is going to stink to heaven! Good luck.

Oops. Bad communicator here. What I meant to say is how do I get the shock apart once it's off the bike. Yes, I stick it in a compression tool and compress it, but is all there is on top is a round plate and no retainers. Anyone know how to get this shock disassembled?

Need 2 old clutch fiber plates, 2 threaded 1/4 x 20 rods, 4 nuts. Place plate on each end, threaded rods across from each other, nuts one each end of the rod and turn down nuts on one end evenly. You need to compress the absorber spring enough to turn the lower eye stud 90 degrees. It then will come apart.

I knew you'd be the one! Thanks. This thing gonna look sweet. Powder coat the covers black and HD orange on top disc and bottom adjusters...no bottom cover.

Yep, disassembled the whole rear of the bike and when you turn the shock upside down, it's easy to see how it comes apart. Thanks
