Default 1980 restoration information

I am working on a restoration of a 1980 Wide Glide. Does anyone know of a site where
information on small details is available? By small I mean.

1 Is the cross ove pipe heat sheild painted black or black wrinkle coated?
2 Is the transmission wrinkle coated or natural color?
3 Rear brake caliper black paint or wrinkle?
4 Paint colors avaiable in 1980
plus many others

I have contacted HD Restoration Dept, but you have to submit requests in writing by mail.
It takes a lot of time to get small details, that are not shown in file pictures.
Thanks to all who reply in advance

Thanks for the replies. Both helped. I just got lucky and found a pair of 1980 FXWG

exhaust with the cross over pipe, and heat shield. After this winter I won't be all done.

I will be very close to a totaly stock bike. Thanks again.

So, how about a pic of your bike before you started the restoration?

OK here are some B4s, but I am not a good photographer.
I took these for myself. The pictures don't show how bad this
bike was.

Here's some pictures of my '80 wide glide rebuild.
I bought new in '80 and it got stolen in'86, then recovered in '86, and it was pretty well trashed out. I just let it set in pasture til 11/02. I decided to fix it up so I could go to the 100th with it. It took me til Aug. '03 to finish, but I completely tore it down piece by piece and come back up with it. I screwed up the 1st paint scheme and had to redo again and change it a little bit. I was trying to work on it and trucking at thesame time is what took me so long. I hope the site works if it doesn't I try posting pics some other way.

To answer your question about colors mine was a Dark Brown w/gold stripping. The flamed one was custom one they offered. I've only seen about 3 or 4 w/ the flames.
To the best of my memory the Primary cover & nose cone was powder coated black w/stainless or chrome covers. The cases & jugs were black crinkle painted.

Thanks for the reply. Bike looks great. You did a good job, I know it was

a lot of work. Does not look like you took any short cuts. Results were good.

I enjoyed the pics thanks again for pics and reply.

2Sixty:

You've done an excellent job in restoring that bike. I'm sure it was a lot of work judging by its condition in the beginning. But hey, she's a beau now! Great job, man, and thanks for sharing.

Enjoy.
