Guides I ordered from Kirk. Rowe, cast iron honed. No such thing as a shovel shop around here. As a matter of fact get this....Wildwood Harley which is in the next town is closest to me. next one is an hr away. We are a tourist town. OK...I went and asked for an oil filter drop in fro a shovel. Wait he said as he had to go find the one guy that knows shovels. After 10 min and others sales people looking up and bringing me a spin or saying we have none in stock, the other guy comes in. Goes in the back and brings a case of 10 out minus 2 missing. Dont sell many of these, I am going to send them back to Harley, dont need them taking up space. Well I said, make me a deal on 6. Fine he says, paid $4. each. Oh btw, he said..the 2 sold out of this case were sold to YOU in the last 2 yrs. So moral of the story is, no one bought a shovel drop in oil filter at this dealer since 2004 when the computer kept records besides me. So most of my stuff is either from my shed or from the UPS man. Geez, maybe these will be worth more someday.

Got the guides in, the intake was to tight to fit in the guide, so I knocked it back out and put it in again and ..presto. Valve fit perfectly. Lapped valves and boom...found out valves were not centered anymore. So I DID have to go back to machine shop and they are touching up the valve seat in the one head tomorrow. Should have it running tomorrow night. Plz cross fingers

Here's my 2 cents......... something i just always do with shovels....... the oil drain through the head gasket is always too small..... i file it to the size of the hole in the heads and cylinder. does help the heads drain better.

Bike is running great! Thanks everyone for your help. Update: After the top end overhaul, I tackled the leaking sprocket shaft. Hah! What a f$ckin ordeal. Ended up rebuilding the cowpie 4sp. New bearings, bushings, seals, mainshaft (which is where most of the play was), countershaft, gaskets. So about $375. or so. Maybe 400. with the new frt sprocket. Think that was bad luck, well I went on my test ride and was eatin a dog standing next to my bike when I hear this "tink" Well, the dang front mounting tab of the inner primary cracked. Musta had it to tight and when she got hot, cracked. $325 more sheckles and got the new one back on and all seems well. Did my first oil change with 200 miles on the clock, and all is good to go~~~~~New chain and rear sprocket on order. Thanks again everyone!!
