Default '81 Keihin carb question

I bought a 1981 FLH Classic last fall and I have recently noticed the stock carb has had the choke plate and choke assembly removed. There is a fast idle **** on the bike, but no choke.
Does anyone know a reason why this would have been removed? Would it be beneficial to me to replace these parts?
The bike starts up and runs fine without it, and has for sometime.

Just curious as to why these parts would have been removed?

Thanks for any insight.

Those old carbs had a problem with the small springs that positioned the chock The spring would break and the wonderful motor company didn't have spare parts other than to sell you a whole new carb What a company!!!

I replace the kiehin on my shovel years ago with the S & S "E" you can re-jet the main with out removing the bowl for changing the intermediate unfortunately the bowl has to come off. increased the power but lost a little in fuel mileage.
