Rodney,
Your mounting that battery up-sidedown, because you can, right ? : - )))))
I like what your doing on this mod, keep at it, please list all the details for the riders that need this extra juice again nice work.
I just ordered a Odyssey battery charger OMAX-6A-1B, I think you would need the next size up -12A- : - ))))
take care,
cj

RE: High Torque-starter install for the ShovelHead
After almost cutting the battery box I noticed all I had to do was turn the battery on it's side terminals inside and to the front of the bike this puts the negative terminal down which is a good thing as it is real close to the box.
I also had to remove the padding I glued to the bottom the box and top lid for the oem battery.
With the nut on the strap all the way out on the stud the thing fits with no real modifications other than cutting a notch out of the front inside corner of the tin lid.
Since I made my own battery cables I gave myself plenty of length for routing to the battery.
I found a neat product at the parts store this am as well, I needed to insulate the terminal on one cable that wasn't done. I didn't want to re-crimp a new end on and the shrink tube
I had was to small ID to fit over the terminal. The product is a wrap able shrink tape and worked great.
Took the bike for a couple test rides to find an oil leak from the right side[:@] looks like the lines going to the rocker boxes.
also have a stumble and pop at times as I let off the throttle and give it more ?~( I have bumped the jets up to .033 inter. and .074 main.
may need to bump the intermediate up one more.
the bike starts better than it EVER has.
all in all very pleased.

Hey, I was wondering where you found that left exhaust shield in this pic? I have only seen the kind that completely cover up the solenoid, and run up under the oil tank abit. That is what I have now, but would prefer something like in your pic. I don't like the solenoid being coveredup like mineis, trapping in the heat, but I don't want to not run a shield and fry my leg.
Thanks,
Jeff

I remember that shield I think one was on my bike OEM.
the pipes a shields are paucho I'd give them a call.
the thing I don't like about this shield is hose clamps hold it on
I was wanting to weld a small thing io the pipe with a counter sunk thread and drill and counter sink the shield and use a nice little alen bolt to fasten it.
but the hose clamps hold it on ok, just a little crude

Thanks Rodney, I'll give Paughco a call tomorrow. I looked at their site, and it had a shield in their description but no pic of what it looked like. Everywhere else I double checked had the one like mine.
Thanks again, and keep up the posts on your project.

What year is your bike Jeff?
in V twin 2 piece heat shield set for 1970 --84 flh vt no. 30-0292 no image in the site but in the 2007 catalog page 637 theres a picture.
Last time I talked with Paughco I don't remember if they would sell to the general public?
When I got my set of pipes from V twin they had the packaging wrong and the heat shield we are talking about was to long for my application it hung over the back of the pipe where it should have turned down several inches. They produce 2 sets of shield that I know of, so have the length measurement of that area of the pipe handy before you call.
