Default I got a winer

Well folks here I go again with my 78 1/2 troublehead. After a couple hour ride yesterday, I pulled back into my shed and heard a winning sound coming from the front end of my sled. Altenator? It seems to sound faster and a little change insound pitchas I rev the bike. Also, would replacing the altenator be costly? I would do the work myself so part are all I need. The regulator is less than six months old and it is charging the battery.
Thanks for any and all advice.

Sorry - I guess spelling was never my strong point...lol I meant to write WHINING. Big differents between winning and whinning.

Hope that helps and I hope someone can help me...

Sounds like my ex is under the front of your motor somewhere. Look for a lady with a frown on her face, kick her out and the problem will be solved. Once I did that all the whining stopped. LOL

you didn't say what kind of primary you have (belt or chain?)

belt whine or pri chain whine???

also cam whine can be indicative to what you are describing. the cam shim get messed up or a lobe is going bad....

check for continuity between the stator plug wires and to ground.

does it happen at an idle? through all gears? when down shifting? when holding the throttle steady?

let me know.
