So you don't have any of the OEM starter system on the bike?
you will need the aluminum inner and outer primary for starters or you can go for an after market setup to retain a wide belt drive. {$$$}
For years I ran my 68 with no electric start and the day I got the starter back on the bike was one of the best days ever. My knee is so happy now!

Hahaha,yes tha ol' knee ordeal,yeah i dont have the "oem" system as yet Rod,ill be starting from scratch,i was unaware of the outter primary you mentioned, i havent had a look at any set ups yet,i was still a lil undecided as to what im gonna do with this motor yet, i was going to stroke it but..... a bit unrealistic for me in the long run i spose,i want it to be reliable and easy to kickstart still ('til i go electric) with a bit more hp,a brand new s&s is aslightly outta my budget, i did think of upgrading to an evo but tha ol' shovel's grown on me and i find its amazing on who'll come and have a look at it an chat,i love tha 70s style,and where im from(AU) i dont see too many evos with that style,just waiting for my motor to be fully dismantled and going from there.

I like the BDL inclosed belt drive systems Use HD inner primary (good luck in finding one ) The startersI use are usually Spyke the electric start housing kits V-Twin P/N43-9151 The belt drive kit CCI P/N 42521 Don't forget to use a sealed bearing in the inner primary cover for the trans main shaft The Spyke starter CCI P/N 28666 ( If I were CCI I'd probably change that part number one Hell of a number ) Good luck

I'm pretty sure you can get an OBS with starter motor housing &\\; (solonoid housing) on it for your open belt.
what brand belt drive and how old is it? also the starter ring gear on the outer hub.
 \\;
you will need to consider the oil tank and what size battery you are running. you will need clearence for the starter motor.
 \\;
the reat is a little wiring and sheet and you are golden.
 \\;
let me know how you make out.

happy trails
