My boss bought his new in '80. He still has it, and will not part with it. He loves it. The only complaint he has is finding parts for it in the " Vintage" section of the catalogs. Not too many things are made to fit the older rides.

I wouldn't trade my FXDWG for a bagger...

has the factory redish/purple ghost flames around the HD logo ... gotta look close.

I have an 82 fxwg and love it. If you look at my profile there are picturers. It is not stock. 80 cube bored 30 over new pistons all internal engine pare except flywheels and rods are new and they were balanced to within 1/10,000 for smother performance.top end renewed guides seals and stainless valves. Mostly new engine chrome. Has a crane b grind cam new hyd roller tappets. Tranny is a 5 speed newer design for better hyway performance and more reliablity. Onle has 2500 miles since rebuild. Neww tires and oil pump. All work professionally done. Must sale I am asking 9000 for it. Pm me with contact info and we can talk

What parts is he trying to find? Never had any trouble at all finding parts.

78's where the bastard bike of the shovelheads , why you see soooo many of them for sale , there were 3 big changes went on in that one year and lot of mixing and matching parts from the factory and i mean motors & transmissions . Add 35 years of people screwing around with them you'll play hell finding a stock unscrewed with one .

I just bought a FXE with a Wide Glide front end which basically makes it a wide glide. Shovels are a great engine. I have the S&S cases with an 88 ci kit on the engine and can go over 110 ci if desired. I have a ton of parts on their way. FYI there were just over 6K made in 80 and about 3k FXEs made in 80.

Around here you cannot find one for less than 5K and that is for a fixer up.

I had an '83 Wide Glide. Rode it to Maine and back, with a stop at Laconia.Put 3500 miles on in 10 days, trouble free.
Bought it for $5400,sold it a few years later for $8000.

I have a 1993 FXSTS Softail Springer that I would gladly trade for a '70's Superglide, Lowrider or 1980's FXWG (Wide Glide)...
