Default Kicker Stuck

Replaced my throwout bearing. Reinstalled the kicker cover and kicker. Now the kicker is stuck. I go to kick it and it is in a locked position about 10 or 11 o'clock and will not budge. It will go forward and I hear the gears turning but then stops in the same locked position 180 degrees later and facing down. I can bring it back to 12 o'clock by pulling in the clutch but then it goes to 10 or 11 o'clock and locks and will not budge. Any idea what has happened before I take it apart for the 100th time.

When you are putting the kicker cover back on is the kick lever/pedal at 12 oclock and looking inside the kicker cover the starter crank gear is set properly I don't know if your using a good service manual but if you would be looking at the kicker cover from the inside make sure that round pin that sticks out off the starter crank gear is at 7 oclock the same time the kicker arm is at 12 oclock then install the cover confused ? K...what I am reading is that the kicker will go forward (clockwise) but not counter-clockwise (the way it needs to move when kicking it)

Seems as if the starter crank gear/pin is not properly aligned when you are installing it.

The manual has you winding the spring on the stud and keeping pressure on it while installing the complete assembly. I keep the spring off the stud during assembly. This allows me to visually mesh the starter crank gear and starter mainshaft gear as I am installing the cover. Then I wind the spring which moves the stud on the crank gear up against the plate on the inside of the box and puts the kicker in the upright position.

And just confirm you have no pressure on the throwout bearing assembly during your install and you have the correct rod (and throwout bearing) for you application? Don't mean to ask basic questions but sometimes it is the little things that screw us up.
