Default Shovelhead into Dyna Frame

Hey all. I have a 1998 FXDL, and of course my 82 FXR, with good powertrain, but the bike needs a fair amount of stuff to be re-habbed in order to be good looking again. How difficult would it be to transplant my shovel into the dyna?

Thanks.

There was a guy on here that put a shovel set up into a newer touring bike. It was one of the most detailed threads I have ever read. It was one beautiful build. Search it. I will try to find it.

You mean this guy? https://www.hdforums.com/forum/shove...-part-2-a.html

He took a shovelhead and added 2009 rear frame and late model tins, tranny and forks.

This guy made an 81 bike into a newer bike. My thought is to put my shovel motor into the fxdl.

The FXR? Theres nothing wrong with it, but mine really needs a total disassembly, powdercoat frame, probably work on wiring, tins repaint, etc. I like it, but I also have this 98 fxdl, which is clean, 34K miles, but is boring without a shovel.

mmm... wait... you want to put the shovel motor of your FXR on a Dyna?
FXR frame is way better than dyna frame.
That being said, you cannot use the complete power plant from the FXR (motor, tranny, primary) to the dyna
You can PROBABLY use the shovel motor. The block is similar and the mounting holes are the same I thing.
I have a doubt about the shovel mainshaft being compatible with the last EVO though.
MAYBE it would have been ok with an early EVO.... but I think not with the last one

I wouldn't even consider taking an FXR off the road to keep a Dyna running. Hell the FXR is where the money is (or will be soon enough.) I truly miss my '83.

You can fix the FXR and have the coolest bike that Harley has ever built and then keep the Dyna running as a backup.

Putting a shovel in a Dyna is just stupid and destroyinging an FXR to do it even worse.
