The super E is a simple stupid as it gets for a shovelhead , been running S&S carbs forever and love them for the simplicity , reliability and easy install plus they come with a very good tuning guide . Aside from throttle shafts and the usual gaskets they'll give you great long time service and are not the finnicky as most other carbs about tuning and riding conditions . Decent gas mileage too , on a stock or reasonable motor they are hard to beat . Got a box full of the old B's , I modify mine with an accelerator pump float bowl , take's a lot of the low end stupid out of them but 30-34 MPG is all your gonna get outa one , E models will give you 45 plus MPG .

Down side is cost S&S the last 6 years or so has really gotten a big head and rather proud of their prices , bad as the MoCo . If budget is a consideration or you have some mechanical skills pick a late CV carb and do the rebuild and tweaks with some new parts . Those will really turn on a shovel done right and tuned properly you can get upwards of 50-54 MPG with one , something to consider with your prices over there .

Those are a real love hate item and I fall into the later category and they can be a real pain in the *** to install on some bikes , the late CV carb is basically the same thing without all the clearence and tuning headaches .

My hat's off to you man I never could deal with those .

S&S E is hard to beat imo...as stated easy to install and tune...last one i bought was in 95 for a 79FLH 1200 stock, called S&S, answered a few questions about motor and pipes so it would be jetted for my set up...bolted it on and ready to go..bike has always started good cold or hot...i also saw jireh cycles sells an ultima carb (S&S) for a couple hundred less, same carb

Get a CV, put a stock spring and unmodified slide in it, get a Drag part #DS-195100 jet kit and use the emulsion tube needle and 45 pilot jet, get an appropriate main jet for your build, most likely a 180 or 185, pop the A/F screw plug out and set it to 1 3/4 turns out and go for a ride. If it coughs on roll on give an 1/8 turn more until it stops. Costs about a third of a new E and will run better!
