Default Sifton 102

PO had put a sifton 102 and a set of sifton solids in. It is also running an S&S E carb , with shorty exhaust. I can't see why so much cam on this motor. It does have a set of heads that are not stock but I don't know who's they are, they only have a stamped 78 above the spark plug and no other ID. The finish machining on the OUTSIDE makes these not stockheads, also the lack of any casting #'s. From pulling the intake & exhaust I see no porting. Anyway, I'm thinking more of an Andrews "J" cam.
What ya think?
thanks mucho

Aristocrat Cam shows significant gain over stock, requires no head work to install. Fits 1948 and later, do not use with hyd tappets.
102 Opens Closes Total TDC Coil Bind Travel
Inlet 32° 56° .390 .200 .440 .490
Exhaust 53 28 .390 .185 .440 .490

the 102 is the old sifton .412 its not a lot of cam.. its a perfect replacement for a stock cam.. your gonna be more than happy with the 102.. the "J" sucks big time.. ya need to look at the timing marks on the cam gear theres the one for the pinion follow it to the top in a stright line to the gear.. look over the back of the gear and make sure it lines up with the keyway the gear cog should be in the center.. a lot of the aftermarket sifton cams were off.. if it is off have someone correct it..

i actually like the #116 better.. it has mre top end power and still no head work

Shotgun (116) Cam combines the best features of the 102 and 103 cam. For electric start only, do not use with hydraulic tappets.
116 Opens Closes Total TDC Coil Bind Travel
Inlet 30° 55° .400 .183 .430 .480
Exhaust 54° 26° .400 .166 .430 .480.

before i would use the "J" i would use the "A" much better choice//

if you have the S&S "E" in a 74" open pipes it uses a 68 main jet 31 idle
an 80" would use a 70 main jet..

get rid of those shorty pipes and get 40" pipes..

if ya have long reach plugs give the AUTOLITE XS 65's a try you wont be disappointed.. much better than the champions

thanks for the reply. I'm looking more for a midrange cam than hi end. I have owned a few BT's and always liked the torque more thanreving those big flywheels up. I also own a ironhead, which is built to come on like a rocket at 3500 rpm and I have a hard time thinking about a BT doing the same thing, but that's why I'm here, to find out what works and what doesn't. The PO had this in a bad state of tune so when I get it jetted correct I believe the 102 might not be so bad. It has a lot of duration but only .420 lift (maybe it was .410) which I don't understand as part of cam work is to open valves as much as possible

sifton-- its a .440 lift -- either that use the andrews "A" grind -- the "A" with a super "E" give lots of power and decent gas milage..

i ran the #116 in plenty of bikes -- its a really good cam. plenty of torque and pulls really well..

they make another one its the #101 (55Q) its a low end quick rpm cam

101 Intake: 14/55 249 0.400 Exhaust: 54/15 249 0.400 Overlap: 29

This 102 cam is for sale, looks brand new. No wear marks so I don't think it was in very long at all. Make offer
