Default forks from 77 FLH-on a 08 FXD?

I have a 77 FLH that got robbed of parts and I am left with a frame, 74 dual plug motor, and the frame. The rear end doesn't fit my 72 FLH so it sits and takes up space. I want to know if HD changed the ID of the neck on the frame after 1976 and will my 77 FLH front end fit the frame on my 08 FXD

You don't want to put the old front on a new bike , those where rough riding as hell and had crap brakes .

That's like putting a piston engine on the space shuttle.

AlCherry-I thought the Shuttle ran on a pair of turbo charged big blocks. I exited the service an E-5 with an Mos 11B2P. 82-88

you could probably get it to fit, but wouldn't wan to. the new forks that you would be replacing have much better handling characteristics.

Yes you can do it. This is my Father's FXD (2005) with a 1960-84 FLH front end. He did however use newer 41mm fork tubes from a FLSTC and sliders from a FLHT. Rides and handles much better than a stock FXD.

k....what is the 60s part on it since HD did not do the disc set up on the front end until what 1973.

Cool that he made the changes work. Why does he say the handling is better?

The important part to get the FLH look he wanted was the triple tree and headlight nacelle. As I stated, the fork lowers are newer allowing better suspension and the use of modern brakes. You asked about the triple tree fitting on the neck, it does fit but you have to grind away on the back of the lower tree just as others that have used FLST triple trees on Dynas.

The bike in my sig pic is also a Dyna that was converted to FL styling. The 16 inch front wheel just makes the bike feel more stable at slow speeds and more responsive at high speeds due to less gyroscopic precession. If you test drive a Fat Bob you would probably feel the difference from the other Dynas.
