Default Eliminate Speedometer Cable From Transmission

I am doing some cleanup work on a Shove project I've been working on. I want to eliminate the speedometer entirely. I noticed that the mechanical cable plugs directly into the transmission. My concern is that the cable tip seemed to have oil on it when I unscrewed it. Do I need to track down a plug to seal up this hole?

the spedo drive has a screw that allows you to remove the gear assembly - and a block off plate is available but you can make one if you cant find it - 1/16 alloy the size of a quarter and your good to go RTV it and drill and re use the screw - johnjzjz

Thanks for the heads up, johnjzjz. I tracked down that plate kit from the J&P web site. In doing some more digging, I think what I might be seeing on the end of the square cable is lubricant, and not oil from the transmission. I'll probably try my luck and run without the cable hooked up until the block off plate comes later this week.

Cheers!

back in the day we would just cut off the spedo cable, to 6 or 8 inches long and turn it down by the trans plate so water did not get in
